Feilding Railway Business
FOR LATEST FOUR-WEEKLY PERIOD Railway business in Feilding for the four weekly period ended last week, compared with that for the same period last year, records a substantial improvement in revenue. In the following details the figures given in parentheses are for the same period last year:— Inward Traffic. Cattle 707 (295), sheep 37,520 (38,268), timber 76,870 ft. (93,900 ft.), goods tonnage 2215 (1624), goods revenue £3883 (£2990), parcels revenuo £sl (£58); total £3934 (£2958). Outward Traffic. Passengers 2108 (2115), revenue from passengers £667 (£604), cattle 443 (4*93), sheep 44,066 (32,212), timber 85,420 ft. (13.000 ft), goods tonnage 1190 (1166), goods revenue £4OOO (£3106), parcels revenue £6l (48); total £4061 (£3154). General. Mr. D. Finlay, tho stationmastor, stated that the improvement in business was largely duo to the increased traffic in sheep, while tho lateness of the fat lamb season had aided towards boosting the returns for the period under review. Fat sheep specials were now the order of tho day, one of 40 trucks having left Feilding on Sunday for Wellington, while three other heavily-laden trains passed through the station on Sunday. Week-end passenger traffic from Feilding continues to be good. Some 300 passengers travelled to Ashhurst for the trades union picnic on Sunday, while just on 60 passengers booked in for the Wellington special.
