Te Awa Defeat Napier for Life-Saving Shield
From Our Own Correspondent. NAPIER, March 8. An interesting display of life-sav-g was witnessed on the Marin© Par.de beach, Napier, yesterday. when jeams representing the Napier and Te Awa Swimming and Life-Saving Clubs competed in the annual surf competition for tho London Shield. Te Awa annexed the trophy from Napier the holder® ,by 135 points to 12*2. This competition is supervised by he Hawke’s Bay branch of th© Royal ife-Saving Society. The shield was resented by the London branch of le society to replace the McLean lidd, burnt in the 1931 earthquake. is open to all life-saving clubs in awke’s Bay, but so far no teams >ra outside Napier have competed. Yesterday’# judges were the ehairan of tho Hawke’s Bay branch of ho society, Mr A. W. H. King, Miss Fleming and Mr g. Wright.
