Evening Wedding Celebrated at Dannevirke

WALKER—AFFLECK. A wedding of district interest by reason of the popularity of the contracting parties was solemnised at Knox Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evening last in the presence of a large congregation by the Rev. J. H. Starne3. 8.A., when Jessie Barbara, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Affleck, of Princess street, Dannevirke, was married to Stephen Alexander, second son of Mr anl Mrs S. Walker, of Guy street, Dannevirke.

Miss Thorburn presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in a dainty gown of ivory French georgette over satin. It was designed on Greek lines, shirring at the shoulder edges of the boat-shaped neck forming a cowl, groups of shirring in the front of the bodice and top of the skirt lending fullness to the bodice, and uplifting the skirt in front to swathe slightly over the hips and fall in voluminous folds about the feet. The sleeves full shirred at the top an open from the shoulder to elbow, closely fitted to the wrist with points over the hands. The back of tihe frock was fastened with tiny buttons from the neck line to the top of the gracefully trailing which was adorned with silver four-leaf el clovers. She wore satin shoes. The beautiful ivory tulle veil (lent by n friend) was arranged in a waterfall at the back of the head and held in place by a triple coronet of orange blossom. She carried a shower bouquet of cream arum lilies, sweet sultan, begonia, gladiolus, gypsophilia, maiden-hair fern and asparagus trailers, tied with ivory satin ribbon.

The bridesmaids were the Misses Lillian (chief) and Jean Affleck, sisters of the bride, and Miss Phyllis Baker, a friend of the bride. Their frocks were of blue georgette over satin of the same shade. They were made on similar lines to that of the bride's, with the exception of the diaphanous angel sleeves and the backs of the frocks being fastened with tiny silver buttons. •Silver shies and the chic little toques of silver and blue were also worn. Their shower bouquets were of pompom dahlias, belladonna lillies in shades of pink, maidenhair fern and trailers of asparagus, tied with silver streamers. Mr Len Anderson, of Dannevirke, officiated as best man, and Mr David Walker (brother of the bridegroom), and Mr. Albert Olsen acted as groomsmen.

As the bridal party left the church the bride was presented with two lucky horseshoes by Miss Margaret Walker and Mr B. Boyle, niece and cousin respectively of the bridegroom, and Mr S. Mackenzie played a selection on the bagpijjes. At the 7 reception, held in Loader's Hall, there was a large gathering of relatives and friends, when the customary toasts were honoured.

The bride's mother wore brown rnarocain ensemble, with hat and shoes to tone, and here bouquet consisted of yellow and autumn tinted pompom dahlias, cream roses and asparagus fern.

The bridegroom's mother was attired in a black and crepe ensemble, with hat and shoes to match, and carried a bouquet of red and bronze pompom dahlias and maiden-hair fern—made by Mr F. A. Butler-Harrison, of Guy street.

The bridegroom’s presents to the bridesmaids were crystal powder bowls The happy couple left by car on a tour of Taranaki, Mrs Walker rearing a brown ensemble, with shoes, toque and gloves to tone. The wedding presents were numerous and costly, including a crystal water jug from the committee of the Uannevirke A. and P. Association. Mr and Mrs Walker will reside in Kumeroa.
