Townswomen’s Guild Approaches City Fathers
PLAIN CLOTHES POLICEMAN WANTED AT ESPLANADE. To the meeting of the City Council last evening, the Palmerston North Townswomen's Guild wrote suggesting: (a) That the grass at the roadside in Fitzherbert. avenue, from tfie bridge to Te Awe Awe street, be cut; (b) that the lighting of footpaths in Fitzherbert avenue be given consideration; (c) that a policeman in plain clothes be stationed at the Esplanade; (d) that the guild views with satisfaction the proposal to reconstruct the Opera House, and hopes that tiho work will bo achieved at an early date. It was resolved: (a) That the city 1
engineer be authorised to lay-out the lawns and to approach residents requesting their co-operation in cutting the grass; (b) that the lighting be referred to the lighting committee, tho electrical engineer to report; (c) that the recommendation that a constable be stationed in the Esplanade, be conveyed to the Police Department; (d) that the reference to the Opera House be received.
