Heavy Rain but Moderating Soon Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. An extensive and intense cyclonic depression has-been moving rapidly southwards and is at present centred west of Westport. The pressure is low also across the south Tasman Sea. Winds: Atoderate to strong northeasterly prevailing at first, reaching gale force in many places, changing to westerly and later to south-westerly soon in the north and to the southeasterly or southerly from Cook Strait southwards. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough to high north of East Cape and rough generally north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura; elsewhere moderate but later rising. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong winds reaching gale force in tho northern portion; westerlies prevailing at first in far northern portion but southerlies soon setting in generally; seas rough in the north, elsewhere moderate to rather rough. Weather: Dull and misty with general rain; many heavy falls probable with some flooding especially in the North Island and north-eastern districts of the South; conditions moderating somewhat to-morrow, however, especially in the western areas and temperatures becoming cooler.
