Indicative of the scarcity of farm labour is a letter received by a number of Otorohanga farmers recently. A gang of harvesters offer their services, and if they obtain work for a fortnight or more, are willing to work “for 3s an hour which is the general price, although some are paying 3s 6d. It is to bo understood we work the full eight hours unless, of course, the job cuts out early. The usual meals and snacks, as well as pitchforks, to be provided by the employer.”
