Plans for an American “Cavalcade”

In a quest for “ the great American film,” Frank Lloyd, Paramount producer, to-day by letter sought to have Sinclair Lewis write an American “Cavalcade” as an original screen story. “Lewis has never consented to write screen originals,” Lloyd said, “but I feel there is a good chance that ho would accept an assignment like this. In my opinion he is the only writer who could do for America what Noel Coward did for England with ‘Cavalcade.’ I shall offer him free rein.” Lloyd, who directed “Cavalcade,” is nearing completion of his now historical romance, “Maid of Salem” for Paramount, which stars Claudette Colbert and Fred Mac Murray. His search for an American “Cavalcade” over a period of months has convinced him that it must be written as uu original screen story.
