BOWLERS ALERT

DOMINION TOURNEY ENTRIES ARE EXCEPTIONAL TOTAL ONLY ONCE BEATEN Entries for the Dominion bowling championship, which opens at Wellington on Monday, January 4, and continues until the middle of the month, are distinctly encouraging. They have only once been beaten in point of numbers; that was in Auckland in 1934. This year entries have been received from 280 singles, 256 pairs, 160 rinks, a total of 296. In 1934, when the tournament was held at Auckland, the entries received totalled 756—314 singles, 278 pairs, and 164 rinks.

Last year the tournament was held in Christchurch where a record number of entries for the South Island participated. It is interesting to note that A. J. Englebretson (Napier), who won the singles title two years ago, but who did not compete last year, is to play on this occasion. F. Livingstone (Onehunga), last year’s winner, has entered also.

J. W. Turrin and R. Haworth (s.) of Canterbury, won the pairs championship last year. On this occasion Haworth is to be partnered by P. Munn.

The Canterbury Club also won the full rinks title last year, the personnel of the rink being: C. H. Elsom, J. W. Turpin, C. J. Shaw and R. Haworth (s). Haworth is skipping the following rink this year: C. Elsom, P. Munn, C. Shaw and R. Haworth (s).
