Romance and Mystery Blend in "Shakedown”
LEW AYRES HEADS CAST IN NEW THRILLER (Kosy: Screening To-day). Romance, comedy, mystery and suspense are blended in an absorbing story of murder by telegraph in Columbia’s ‘‘Shakedown” starring Lew Ayres and Joan Terry. Weaving a delightful love story against a thrilling background of fast action in a great telegraph company’s office, “Shakedown” is an unusual story, with Ayres giving one of his best screen performances and Miss Perry giving further evidence that she is a
young lady with considerable talent. A lino cast gives them excellent support, adding to the picture’s merit. Ayres portrays Bob Sanderson, young man in love with the daughter of the manager of the telegraph company for which ho works as a messenger. Joan Perry is the girl, and when her father refuses to give Ayres a job commensurate with his ability, she arranges to have herself kidnapped, feeling that when Ayres effects her rescue, her father will be forced to recognise his talent.
"Shakedown” gains in action from this point on and moves swiftly to its climax. Both Ayres and Miss Perry, as well as the rest of the cast, including Henry Mollison, George McKay, John Gallaudet, Thurston Hall, Victor Kilian and Gene Morgan do convincing work.
