"Today We Live” Presents Popular Team

COOPER AND CRAWFORD GIVE FINE PERFORMANCE (Mayfair: Screening To-day.) The greatly anticipated co-star-xing vehicle for Joan Crawford and Gary Cooper, “To-day We Live,” is one of the major productions to come from the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. Miss Crawford, whose work in “Grand Hotel” definitely placed her as the outstanding emotional player on the screen to-day, and Cooper have never appeared together on the screen before. Their first co-starring appearance .s an auspicious event in cinema history, for it takes place in a lilmisation of a story by the brilliant writer William Faulkner, whose novels have created a literary furore. In “To-day We Live,” Faulkner has written a- story about the dramatic experiences of au English society girl who offers her services to England during the World War in an ambulance unit, and falls in love with au American flier. The production was directed by Howard Hawks, and the supporting cast includes Robert the New York stage juvenile Franchot Tone, Koscoe Karns, Louise Closser Hale, Eollo Lloyd and Hilda Vaughn. In ‘‘To-day We Live” Miss Crawford finds herself the centre of an emotional conflict between three men, two of whom lose their lives in her behalf. The powerful story shifts from the aristocratic country estato of the heroine to dynamic episodes in the battle zones of the war, with what is said to be one of the most terrific climaxes ever dovised for the screen ocurring when one of the star’s lovers gets a "death order” to blow up a ship from which there will be no return. Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer is said to have placed all the facilities at its disposal to Director Hawks in the filming of this picture, which is reported to be one of the outstanding talkie productions of the year.
