Good Evidence. To the surprise of the magistrates, and especially of the official concerned, the prisoner in the dock called the police superintendent as his witness as to character. ‘‘But I don’t even know the man,” complained the "super,” indignantly. "And that,” returned tho prisoner, smiling at the bench, "is my proof of respectability. I've lived in this onehorse tow'n for five years and the police don’t even know me.”
