AIADRID, Dec. 4. Thirty bombing aeroplanes brought off the most spectacular raid on Aladrid to date, setting lire to various parts of the city. The raiders, having exhaused their supplies of bombs, swooped down mercilessly and machineguned fleeing men, women, and children. , , . „

The air raid was repeated thiis afternoon, houses being demolished, burying scores of people in the Arguelles and Rosales quarters in tho north-west of Madrid, which were reduced to ruins.

The loyalists, though met by rifio lire, arrested 500 persons occupying the building under the innocent protection of tho Finnish Legation. These are believed to be members of a secret organisation known as the Fifth Division which was supposed to have been conducting subterranean rebel propaganda in Aladrid. ■ ~L-
