World Reaction

What Canada Thinks

PLAIN WORDS ABOUT MRS SIMPSON.

Received Sunday, 9.50 p.m. MONTREAL, Dec. 4.

Canadian reaction supports Cabinet. The Press solidly opposes tho marriage. A typical leader in the Toronto GlobeMail says: “The simple facts are that Mrs. Simpson is an American twice divorced who was introduced to the British people as a notorious expatriate. These aro circumstances which offend the standards circumscribing his position as a constitutional monarch. ”

Le Soleil, a Quebec paper, says: “Unless he abdicates or attempts a revolution King Edward cannot follow his inclination to marry a person not suitable to his station or church,”

Keceived Sunday, 9.20 p.m. OTTAWA, Dec. 5.

Following a four hours' Cabinet session the Prime Alinister refused to make an announcement, declaring: “I can add nothing to Air. Baldwin’s statement.” This is taken to indicate that Cabinet unanimously endorses 7no British Alinistry.

‘‘Stand Ready, Say Little and. Pray Much”

MRS. SIMPSON’S MOTHER KEPT BOARDERS.

Received Sunday, 10.14 p.m. OTTAWA, Dec. G,

So far as Canada’s part is concerned there were no concrete developments today in the crisis. The Prime Alinister, Air. Alaekenzie King, cancelled his week-end in the country and is prepared to call an emergency meeting of Parliament.

The Primate, Bishop Owen, asked for prayer: “Stand ready. Say little and pray much for the Empire, the Government of Britain, the Church, and above all, the King.” Press comment continued stressing the unsuitability of Airs. Simpson as Queen. Tho Toronto Telegram says: “The undisputed facts are that the much-dis-cussed lady came from poor but h'onest parents. Her widowed . mother kept boarders at Baltimore which is nothing to be ashamed pf and Airs. Simpson has been twice divorced, all of which is not an ideal setting for a Queen of Britain.”

The Toronto Globe-Alail says: “Whatever the King’s decision there is no probability that British faith in British institutions will be shattered. If the result is not what is best for the Empire it will be but an interregnum in its progress.”
