Control of Feilding’s Cricket Ground

CRICKETERS ADVOCATE CHANGE

At a meeting of the management committee of the Fcilding Cricket Association on Friday evening with Mr. C. E. Taylor (president) in the chair, a report was received from the Kowhai Park committee (a sub-committee of the association) recommending that the association approach the Borough Council with a view to that authority being responsible for-the maintenance and upkeep of the cricket ground. The existing arrangement is that the Cricket Association received a subsidy from the Borough Council and accepts responsibility' for the payment of the custodian. At a recent meeting of the association the Kowhai Park committee was asked for a recommendation on tho subject of a change in the control and having in view the difficulty of the association in making ends meet, decided to recommend that the Borough Council take over the responsibility. Tho committee discussed the question and decided to adopt the recommendation and it is now intended to arrange for a deputation to wait on the reserves committee of the council with tho proposition that tho council take over the park and the Cricket Association to contribute a sum to be agreed upon towards tho cost of maintenance.

Tho Hutt Cricket Club wrote asking whether a match could bo arranged for a touring team which would visit Feilding on December 29.—1 t was decided to endeavour to arrange for a FciliXng team.

An appeal was made by Mr. H. Jaggard on behalf of tho umpires for the committee to endeavour to arrange for assistance. There was a shortage of umpires and volunteers were required. In connection with the proposal to raise funds for tho building of a pavilion on Kowhai Park, it was arranged that tho president address all players on tho subject during the tea adjournment on Saturday next.
