THE BLACK PONY

Umutoi. Dear Hub,—We have two pups and their names are Chum and Bluff. Chum is black and tan and is always sitting on top of his kennel. Bluff is black, white and tan and shakes hands with ns. Both of them are full of fun and are very cheeky. We also have a black pony which we broke, in and we are keeping him for a ycar. Cowboy Tom and I were first on him and were bucked off. I suppose Gumboot Bill and Columbine- will ride him to school when they get him back. His namo is Peter and he is very quiet. Last week Cowboy Tom and I went for a walk up the Tanges and had a good day. We went as far as the lakes, and as it was a hot' day, we were going to have a swim, but all of the lakes were dried up. We have had dozens of swims in our dam and wo have our old bath for a boat. We get tipped out and it?s jolly fun. . Dad has. finished shearing and this year we have five black lambs and two are twins. Cowboy Tom and I have nine pet lambs to feed and their names are Edward, Albert, David, Christian, George, Andrew, Patrick, David, Iven and Dickie. David has one half of his faco all black. It does not take two of us long to feed. them. This year we have kept nine calves and they are all colours. My calf is black with white legs and a white tip to his tail. I hope all the Cogs, the Page Personalities and yourself have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year; Whistling Rufus. How disappointing it would be to find the likes dried up, Whistling Kufus.- It must be fun in the dam, hotvever. I liked the names you had chosen for the lambs. They arc quite in line with royalty, aren’t they? A FAT AND PLAYFUL KITTEN Palmerston North. Dear Hub,—On Saturday I went to the bazaar and I had a ticket on Minnie but I did not win it. Jean Coman won it. Kitty is getting quite fat now aud more playful than ever. A few days ago Ola’s kitten took a fit and banged its head on the ground so her uncle put its head in a tin of water. ■ Mimi. A bazaar is fun, isn’t it, Mimi? Jean was lucky to win Minnie Mouse, wasn't she? A FRESH NEW COAT OF PAINT Bar 20 Pvanch. Dear Hub,—Here’s one of the jolly cowboys again. I’ll be glad when Christmas Day comes. It is Whistling Rufus’, birthday on Christmas Day. My birthday was on the day Jean Batten arrived at Mangere aerodrome and that was on October 16. We have- been painting the Tanch house and all the other buildings and don’t they look fine. They are painted green and white. Stalky still has a green face, lie fell asleep on the roof and Johnny, who was helping him, painted his face green. Didn’t he get a shock when he looked into his mirror. Well I must say cheerio, and also here’s hoping all the Cogs have a Merry Christmas. Cowboy Tom.

The ranch-house certainly must look very smart with its new coat of paint, Cowboy Tom. I am glad you are coming in to see me one day. THU LOST THREEPENCE Palmerston North. Dear Hub,—Last Saturday I went to a bazaar with Mimi. We all- had fourpence and when we got there I lost a threepence. But all’s well that ends well for Mimi gave me a penny. Then Brian Garner gave me another penny. After a while Minnie Mouse was raffled and Jean Coman won it. We are having our school concert at the Umpire hall on Thursday, December 17. Sleepy Head. P.S. Do you save drawings? If so l will send one. The drawing will be lovely for our "Album of Happy Days,” Sleepy Head. It was no good losing your threepence, was it'? A YOUNG DRESSMAKER Apiti. » A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT Woodville. Doar Hub,—l seem to be turning up now like a bad penny, and shirking my rhymes, but I can not think of a new rhyme every week, and I am sure every reader will be thinking I send the same one every week, but now, I must turn over a new leaf, and begin again in the new year. Soon as I get my. filrns developed I shall send you some photos. Would you be able to . print any in the Page, Hub? Our concert came off very well, last Thlursday. The audience seemed to like our choruses as they clapped until wo were made to come back. We were all dressed in long blue frocks and little hats, and wo had muffs, and sang “Alice Blue Gown,” and "A Beautiful- Lady, in Blue,” and did actions to each. The school children sang a song called "Look for the Silver Lining,” which was very sweet. A number of boys sang and acted in costume a song, "Cowboys,” and then as niggers sang “Old Man Kiver. ” We also had a play, but I did not see it as we had to be preparing for our item. Last night I was at a twenty-first birthday party which I quite enjoyed. I hopo my gift for the Treasure Chest has arrived safely. It will soon be Christmas time once again. Shortly again, I shall soon be visiting your city. I am getting a nice song now called "When a Perfect Day is Ended.” Have you ever heard it? “Home on tho Range” is a lovely tune but it is now going out. It is very cold new. I sincerely hope that Christmas will be fine. Tho Woodville School is shortly holding a concert, and Alan Loveday, the boy violinist, is going to be there to play on his violin. He must bo very good. Tho picture with the Dionne Quintuplets is going to be shown in Woodville on Thursday. I--saw-it while it was in the State theatre in Palmerston some months ago. I like Freddie Bartholemew in pictures. He is really lovely, being my favourite actor and Ginger Rogers, my favourite actress. In the picture, "Follow the Fleet,” Ginger acted under the name of Sherrie. She was really good. Bonnie Bluebell. Your lovely, gift for .the Treasure Chest arrived, Bonnie Bluebell, and thank you so much for it! How pretty you would look in your long blue gowns.
