Awapuni Track Operations CONDITIONS WERE IDEAL YESTERDAY. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS' ANNOUNCED FOR WOODVILLE Track work at Awapuni was carried out under very pleasant conditions yesterday morning, the weather being fine and mild and the going not too soft and not too firm. The course proper was open and the flags wore out in the middie. Limbohm was one of tho first on the scene and after Mr Toxward had jogged him round on one of the inside tracks, J. Chaplin took him on to the course proper, where he cantered round to the home turn and came homo the last two furlongs in 25 2-5, moving very nicely. Limbohm is improving steadily. Martara, looking as fit as a fiddle, was worked over about nine furlongs, G. Tattersall being in the saddle. He was not required to do better than 15 seconds to the furlong until approaching the three, where he was speeded up a bit to break 40 for the last throe. All going well in tho interim, Martara will race at Woodville. Vonia Park (D. Mansfield) was sprinted three furlongs and he hit out i boldly to cut tho distance out in 38 1-5. Black Thread looks none the worse for his Feilding trip, in fact he looks, to

have improved since last week. He was out doing easy pace work yesterday morning. \X. Goscomb has five Horses with him at Awapuni. They are Black Thread, Hunting Mars, Huntette, Slipstitch and a big two-year-old. Round Score and Lavisli were restricted to easy pace work and Lavish was going very gingerly. Hunting Mars was worked over five furlongs, coming home the last three in 41. Happy Hunting (L. A. Pine) was speeded up over half a mile and was going well enough at the finish to suggest he could have improved on 54sec. His next outing under silk will be at Manawatu.

Severe (W. J. Broughton), Gold Nymph (G. Tattersall) and Taumau (L. A. Pine) were associated in an interesting trial over seven furlongs. Severe got the best of the start, but Gold Nymqjh soon joined her and they showed the way to the throe well clear of Taumau. The last-named then closed the gap and despite being under a firm hold he got to within a length of Gold Nymph at tho post. Severe, who did uot finish ns solidly as Gold Nymph, was a couple of lengths back and the time was .1.35 4-5.

. Slipstitch scampered over three furlongs in 39 2-5. Silent Acre (A. McDonald) was worked over six furlongs, but ho was not required to do his best to complete in 1.27 2-5. Old Surrey (Anderson) and Finnosko (P. Rae) were sprinted three furlongs, and Old Surrey, who moved very sweetly, had it on his stablemate at the finish. Padnos (Broughton) and Pango (Chaplin) were together at the end of five furlongs cut out in 1.6. Huntette (C. Thomson) and the GO3comb two-year-old (Tattersall) were companions over three and they were together, with the former doing it easily, at the post after being clocked' to run the distance in 38 3-5. The Crooner (Broughton), Bluffier (Anderson) and Hunting Loro (Tattersall) were among those asked to sprint three furlongs. They went away together, but Bluffer led into the straight. Then The Crooner made a dab but couldn’t quite reach Bluffer. The time was 39sec. Gay Molly is to race at Woodville, but. it is reported that Mirth’s racing career has finished. L. Knapp’s stable will be represented at Woodville by Pango and Padnos (first day) and. Wild Plower (second day).. Aurora’s Love (L. A. Pine) and Black Fox (R. Chisholm) were companions over five furlongs, wdiich they cut out in 1.11 1-5, and Black Fox was going the better of the two at the finish. Symcony appears to be in better nick

than when slio arrived at Awapuni and yesterday, with L. A. Pine at the . controls, she stretched oat in an easy five which occupied 1.10. An interesting piece' of work was that in which Dungarvan (L. A. Pine) and Corroboree (It. Chisholm) 'took part and, without being out for time, they wore given a solid . work-out over a mile. Even time was maintained until they reached the home turn, where they wero speeded up to run the last, two furlongs' at a nice clip. The first fiv6 furlongs lock them'l.l4 2-5 and the last three 42scc.

Biding engagements for ‘ W. J. Broughton at Woodvilie are: Count Siegfried, Bed Manfred, Karl or Haut Monde, Balpliyllis, Geira arid Acron. L. A. Pice has- been engaged for Black Pox and Taumau. Taumau has not raced since the Bahgitikei meeting. C. Thomson will ride Black Thread on the second day of the . Woodvilie meeting. - ' PROM VARIOUS SOURCES. A Woodvilie message states that 'A. Lloyd •is due to arrive there to-day with Tout lo Monde, Invoice, In the Dark, and tho two-year-old, Private Bunsby. Tho team will race at the Manawatu and Marton holiday meetings and C. Wilson will do the riding for tho stable. Because it is believed he will race better tho left-hand way, Siegmund, winner of the Stonyhurst Handicap at Biccarton, is to race during the holidavs at Awapuni and Marton.

AUCKLAND SUMMER MEETING. General entries for tho Auckland summer meeting close, at 5 o’clock this afternoon. At the same hour, forfeits must be declared for the G.N. Derby and Poal Stakes, and for the Royal Stakes. BACK PROM AUSTRALIA. Silver Bing, Piadie, and II Duce, who i have been racing in Australia, returned ( from Melbourne this week by the , Wanganella. They all did -well on the \ trip and have held their condition.

J. Stewart, trainer of Silver Ring, said that the horse had had a strenuous compaign in Australia. Just prior to the Melbourne Cup he suffered a touch of rheumatism, and a stone bruise also developed in his foot. This naturally affected his chances at the V.R.C. meeting, and the horse’s connections were not surprised when he failed to show up. A bar shoo has been fitted to the injured foot, and- he appears to be making satisfactory progress. He is to remain at Ellerslie in the meantime, and should he make the desired improvement he wll race at the Auckland summer meeting. His rider in the Auckland Cup will be A. E. Ellis, Pladie and II l)uco are also to remain at Ellerslie, and they will fulfil engagements at the Auckland meeting. II Duce was raced on several occasions in Australia, but a second placing was the best ho could do. Pladie secured a third placing.

Inver and Kaiwaka were to be shipped to Sydney ,by the Wanganella to join. J. T. Jamieson’s team.

WORK AT TRENTHAM. Trentham stables will be lightly represented at Woodville next week, the only possible visitors being Arctic King, First Spec and The Pawnbroker, and so the work at present being accomplished on the tracks is more in the nature of preparation for later fixtures (states “Eangatira, ” of the Post). For tho first time for a week conditions. were favourable yesterday morning for fast galloping. Tho weather was mild and calm again, and the trial grass track rvas in excellent order after the recent storm. It is not often that the going is so easy at this period of the season, but there has been more than the average amount of rain in the Valley this spring. Arctic King (P. Burgess) had Revival (B. E. Edwards) for a mate over five furlongs, and ho was going the better at the end in lmin. 3 2-ssec., the last half-mile in 50 l-ssee. Arctic King is fairly forward, but ho will be better after his first raco or two. The Pawnbroker (R. Lorigan) ran five furlongs in lmin. Gsec., tho last half-mile in 52 4-ssee. First Spec (P. Burgess) did strong pacing only.

Auckland Candidates. The centre's main Auckland Cup hope, Cuddle, had her first gallop yesterday morning since her racing at Riccarton. With S. Wilson in the saddle, she kept alongside Boomerang (R. Hawes) till near the end of a mile, then wont facilely away to be a length and a half ahead at the post. They ran the full distance in lmin. 4bsec., the pace being on for the first half, and Cuddle could have done the last half in better than 53 2-ssec.

Sunee is also to go north for tho holidays, and with this object in view he is being worked the reverse way. He did a couple of rounds yestorday morning, finishing up his last half-mile in 52see. He is in the Auckland Cup on the minimum. Essex, who is to accompany him north with the Derby as his main mission, is also being sent along the reverse way, but was never but of a canter yesterday morning.
