Political Tension
CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS CONFRONTS CABINET
The Daily Mail says: ‘ ‘Political tension to-day led to a sharp break on prices in Government securities and industrial and speculative markets. Dealers in British Government securities marked down quotations as much as one and three-six-teenths. Disturbing rumours arose following a Cabinet meeting lasting more than two hours.”
The Mail quotes the editorials of the Yorkshire Post and other provincial papers.
The Manchester Guardian says: “It can no longer he concealed that a constitutional crisis confronts Cabinet.’ ’
The Daily Telegraph’s political correspondent says: ‘‘Cabinet has been compelled to face a most delicate and most difficult situation in connection with the King’s private life, and it may be assumed that the subject of Mr. Baldwin’s interview with the King' this evening was advice which Cabinet felt it necessary to tender his Majesty.”
