EIGHTH BIRTHDAY CELEBEAED A SANSON. The eighth birthday of the Sanson Women’s Institute was celebrated on Wednesday, November IS, when representatives.from Marton Junction, Bulls, Parewanui, Ohakca, Rongotea, Stanway, Rongotea and HalcomDe Institutes were also present. The president, Mrs A. K. Drew, extended a hearty welcome to all the visitors. A very interesting address was given by Mr W. 11. Stevens, Palmerston North, on "Native Lore and Bird Life” which was greatly appreciated. The children of the local school of the higher standards attended at the invitation of the Institute. A competition was won by Mrs Moore, of Palmerston North. Much appreciated items were rendered by members of the Halcombe singing circle. A delightful afternoon tea was provided, the cake for the occasion was made by Mrs A. Iv. Drew, the candles being lit by Mrs C. E. Eglinton and blown out by Mrs W. E. Pearce. Gratitude was expressed to the Halcoinbe Instituto member^ 1 for tho excellent musical items rendered by Mrs W. E. Pearce. Birthday greetings wero received from the following •institutes: Parewanui, Bongotea, Marton, Carnarvon, Ilalcombc, Bulls, Ohakea, Stanway. Tho singing of the National Anthem concluded a very happy afternoon. KOPUTAROA. The November meeting of the Koputaro Women's Institute was held recently, Mrs Lancaster presiding over a good attendance of members. Arrangements were made for the children's Christmas party to bo held next month. Mrs-Koberstein reported on the recent council meeting at Palmerston North. Mrs Scott gave a most interesting demonstration on making mats from tyres and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks by acclamation. Afternoon tea was dispensed by tho hostesses Misses Jones, Hood and Koberstein. There was a very large number of entries in the competitions and tho results were: Mrs Lancaster 1, Mrs Hcavey 2, Mrs Spiers 3. Junior: A buttonhole, Miss Koberstein 3, Miss Hood 2, Miss Jones 3. The meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. NGAWAPURUA Mrs Coulter presided over a large attendance at tho Ngawapurua Women’s Institute November 'meeting. - Itirwas decided to hold a children V Christmas party on December 12. Mrs Knapp, delegate to the half-yearly council meeting held in Pahiatua, gave a splendid report. Mrs A. Harris demonstrated Christmas novelties and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded her. A mystery parcel stall was.held and the funds donated to the Health Campaign. Competitions were: —Best viola, Mrs C. Morgan, 1; dress costume, not more than 5/-, Mrs C. Houghton, 1; Miss Joyce Morgan, 2. Junior members delighted tho gathering with a social half-hour with songs at tho piano. A dainty afternoon tea by the hostesses, and singing of tho National Anthem brought a pleasant afternoon to a close. KUMEROA-HOPELANDS. ' The November meeting was held in the hall when. Mrs Norman presided over a large number of members, each of whom had brought a friend. It was decided to have a Christmas treo on December 17, all parents and children to be invited. The roll-call was for a pun and the competition was for a jar of roses and sweet peas. The former was won by Mrs Norman, Miss Bridges being second, Miss Arrow and Miss Toogood being tho winners of tho second competition. A lecture by Mrs 'Burnett on Kumeroa’s early days was very interesting. Hostesses were Mesdames Mac Kay, Sinclair and Miss Smith. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very pleasant afternoon to a close.
