The Cheese Hold-up
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Regarding your leading article concerning the hold-up of Hopelands cheese in which you say our action “is a form of lawlessness, and as such is to be condemned,” let us remind you that there are individuals connected with the dairy industry that know no law excepting the law of the jungle. The victim at Hopelands is a bright, clean-living, intelligent, hard-working young man, whose young wife is expecting her first baby very soon. They have been thrown on to the rocks of despair for no other reason than that of the husband attempting to claim his rights, of which he has been robbed during over five years’ faithful service with this company. It is a fact that victimisation and intimidation are being practised by more than one company and our statement is not an incredible one even in this year of 193 G. I am, etc., C. GOUGH, Secretary.
