STANDARD HAS IMPROVED
“They stage the English Cup final at Wembly in the manner grand and simple,’’ remarked Mr. L. Baines of Scarborough, who has just returned to Australia froma visit to England. “They know how to do things. And how kindly they are. “I saw some great soccer over there Bolton, Preston, Blackburn, Arsenal, Sheffield United and the rest. “An English amateur team is coming out next season. Well, from what I saw in the final between. Weston and Metters (New South Wales) the Englishmen will have to be pretty strong to hold their own with the best in these parts. “The games I saw in England were not better than last Saturday’s final. Our Australian players possess speed and initiative not too general on the other side. “Over there the best players may have a little more knowledge of the fine points and combine well. But the best Australians are so good that they will do great work against the Englishment. They will draw big crowds, too. “Managed well there is a big future for soccer here.”
