Cheltenham Tennis Club

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Cheltenham Tennis Club was held in the hail on Tuesday evening, Mr. Edwin Sinclair (president) being in the chair. Some 60 residents, members and prospective members, were present and 37 new ones were nominated. *

The minutes of tho previous meeting having been read and accepted, the balance sheet was presented following which Mr. Sinclair complimented the club on its sound financial position, there being a credit of £l7. He congratulated the members on their play last season aud commented on tho fact that the Guy Cup was lost by only ono game. In the course of hla remarks Mr. Sinclair referred to the sporting spirit at all times evidenced in the club aud said that tho members never failed to “play tho game” in every way. The speaker thanked the social committee for its assistance throughout the season and also the secretary (Miss D. Anderson) for her year’s work, remarking that the club was fortunate in possessing so efficient a secretary. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. E. Burrell for his assistance as lion, auditor. Tho president assured the members that their help during the season had been much appreciated and had made his position an eusy oue to till. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Ernest Short for her donation to the club. Mr. M. Short in addressing the meeting spoke of tho work entailed in the forming of the tennis courts and stressed the fact that Mr. Sinclair had given up much time and had also gone to a great deal of trouble in connection with tho venture. As far as Mr. Short was personally concerned, ho was very enthusiastic where the sport was concerned but had been regretfully forced to resign owing to health reasons, the club however, being delighted to enrol him again this season.

Mr. Sinclair thanked Mr. Short for his remarks and gave him credit for all he had done in connection with the forming of tho courts. The election of officers for this year resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. C. G. C. Dormer; president, Mr. Edwin Sinclair; vice-presi-dent, Mr. A. Humphrey; secretary and treasurer, Miss D. Anderson; lion, auditor, Mr. E. Burrell; captain, Mr. A. Humphrey; vice-captain, Mr. Roy Petersen; committee, Mrs. A. Humphrey, Miss E. Hill and Messrs. F. Hill and E. J. Sinclair; social committee, Mcsdames Edwin Sinclair, A. Mills, W. Anderson, G. Anderson, Bismarlc, Ireland, 11. Brooker, H. McFarlane and M. Finlayson. It was decided to celebrate tho opening or the courts on October 10 with a yankee tournament.”
