Blockage of Culverts
UNPACKING OF CASES ON FOOTPATH BLAMED.
“Considerable trouble has been experienced during the past month with blockages at street intersections, chiefly where cast iron pipes are in use as culverts,'' stated tlio city engineer (Air. J. R. Hughes) in his report to last night's meeting of the Palmerston North City Council. “These pipe culverts in practically every instance are formed with 7-inch diameter pipes and small obstructions lodging in the pipe soon completely block same. “With practically every heavy downpour of rain the stormwater accumulates at the corner of King and Kangitikei streets, and on each occasion when my staff effected clearance of the sumps and manholes, the blockage lias been found to have been caused by wood wool and pieces of case wood, etc. The (irms in King street have been notiiied that, in future, unpacking of cases on the road or footway is absolutely prohibited. ’’
