Charged With Forgery
CENTRAL PIGURE IN SWEEPSTAKE EPISODE. T’er Press Association. DUNEDIN, Sept. 5. The central figure in the recent thirty thousand pounds Irish sweepttake episode, Ernest Arthur Tremere Johnstone, appeared in the Police Court this morning charged with forging a cheque for 130 purporting to be drawn by A. Pirie on the Bank of New Zealand at Milton with intent that it should be aetijd on as genuine. He was remanded in custody till Wednesday, the police stating that he hal been probationed on another charge by another local Magistrate.
