Husband Pound Dead in Car

WIFE’S TRAGIC DISCOVERY Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 5. Albert Geoiiige, a tobacconist, was found dead this morning sitting iu the driving seat of his car in a garage at the back of his home at 309 Tuaui street. Evidence given at the inquest, which opened this morning, indicated that the engino of the car had been running, and consequently would have been giving off deadly carbon monoxide fumes. After evidence of identification had been given, tho Coroner, Mr. E. C. Levvey, ordered a post-mortem examination, and adjourned the inquest sine die.

The only witness heard this morning was Ernest Charles Aldridge, an engineer’s turner, employed at tho Addington workshops, who gave evidence of identification. Aldridge said that ho shared the house in Tuani street with George. At 8 o’clock last night, George was suffering from a mild attack of influenza. About 6.45 this morning witness was called by Mrs. George, who told him she had found her husband in his car in the garage. She thought he was very ill. Witness rushed to the garage at the rear of the house and found Gcorgo sitting in tho driving seat of his car. He was reclining peacefully, and witness realised that ho was dead. Three doors of the car were closed, but that ou the front left-hand side was open. Furthermore, tho side door of the garage and tho two front doors were wide open. There was a. trace of benzine fumes in tho air in tho garage, and there was also a slight smell of fumes in the car. He did not uotieo anything else unusual except that the car had been running. The radiator and engine Were both warm, but lie could not say whether or not the ignition was turned .on. When he went to the. garage there was a certain amount of petrol in the tank.' Consequently, he considered that tho engine must have been stopped.
