Coronation Plan
£BO,OOO TO BE SPENT An estimate that £60,000 will be spent on special programmes during an eight weeks’ Coronation season of broadcasting next summer is being allowed for in tho 8.8.C.’s budget. The sum is allow-ed to cover ,the expense of engaging tho leading stars of tho entertainment world for big musical plays, ordinary plays, and gala variety programmes; for performing rights and copyright fees for some of Britain’s finest musical and literary works; and for tho renting of land lines for the numerous outside broadcasts.
On Coronation Day selected cities and villages in various parts of England will contribute to a special programme in which relays from every part of the Empire will also be heard. It will be either immediately after this programme or on one of the succeeding days that the King will broadcast.
