A Fine Public Spirit
All too often is the accusation made that this is an all too material age. The splendid response to the proposals for beautifying the Manawatu Gorge show -that our citizens are not lacking in public-spiritedness and appreciation of beauty. The. suggestion originated from the Woodville Beautifying Societv some three weeks ago. A public meeting called in Palmerston North last Tuesday showed how widespread was support for the proposal. .Representatives of many organisations, as well as individuals, attended in force and discussed ways and weans of implementing the proposal. On Wednesday next, weather permitting, all interested in the project ave to meet at the Ashhurst entrance to the Gorge to commence planting operations. Properly planned and organised the possibilities of this excellent scheme are endless, and the results should be a joy to travellers for many years to come-
