TAKARO CLUB’S REPORT. “It is with great satisfaction that 1 am able to report that tho club has had a record season, commencing the year with a credit 'balance of £22 19s 5d and, notwithstandiug the fact that our expenditure has been about tho same as in previous years, there is a credit to carry forward amounting to £6B 3s 8d, ’’ states the president of the Takaro Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club (Mr A. W. Just) in his annual report. “The total subscriptions received reveal an increase of £9 Is 9d. The individual sections, as compared with those of the 1934-35 season, show an increase in tho bowling and croquet sections, whilst the tennis section shows a small decrease. The balance of the receipts is similar to tlioso of the preceding years, with the exception of tho art union. This year the club made application to conduct an alluvial gold art union and the net profit, as shown on the balance-sheet (£3O 13s 7d), is very gratifying. I wish to thank very sincerely those officials who took the responsibility of conducting this profitable undertaking. As in previous years, I also wish to thank very sincerely the ladies’ committee for their wonderful assistance. Bowling. “With an increased membership in the bowling section a very pleasant and harmonious season was experienced, our club being represented very efficiently in the fixtures, winning the Dixon Cup, the Takaro Cup, and the Manson and Barr Cup. In the annual competition with the Northern Club we were succssful in again winning the Takaro-Te Eaki Cup. Messrs J. Child and E. Hearsey are to be congratulated in being runners-up in the New Year pairs tournament. Tho club was represented in the centre’s visits to Auckland, South Auckland, Wellington and Hawke’s Bay, whilst our own members went to Wanganui and Mr A. Cookslev to the South Pacific carnival at Suva. Club competitions resulted as follow: — Championship singles, Mr A. Cooksley; championship pairs, Messrs Child and Berry; handicap singles, Mr J. Durham; handicap pairs, Messrs Farrar and Wass. The section wishes to thank Mr and Mrs F. McEwcn and Mr W. Monks. Croquet. “Tho croquet section also, with an increased membership, had a most enjoyable season and the club’s standing was upheld by our present members. The ladies r.:o to be congratulated in winning the association’s banner for mtcr-club competition. In tho New Zealand tournament Mrs Anstis and her partner were runners-up in the Dominion championship, whilst Mrs Colquhoun won the B section of the handicap singles; also, at New Plymouth, Mrs Anstis won the ladies’ championship singles, and Miss Tennant and Mrs Colquhoun were runnersup in tho handicap doubles. At the local tournament Mrs Colquhoun won the B grade handicap singles and was runner-up in the B grade championship. Tennis. “Although numerically weaker in the tennis section than last year, wo were probably stronger in playing material than ever before, and for tho first year in its history tho Saturday A team were promoted to the A grade competitions. Although not meeting with the same success as in previous years, they acquitted themselves well and the experience gained in playing against the leading Manawatu players will be reflected in the general standard of play in tho club. Congratulations are extended to two of our members, Mr J. Christie and Mr D. Spring, in gaining representative honours. The club competitions decided during the season saw some good matches, the winners being:—Ladies’ championship singles, Mrs C. Weston; gents’ championship singles, Mr J. Christie; ladies’ handicap singles, Mrs C. Weston; gents’ handicap singles, Mr D. MeMurray; ladies’ handicap doubles, Mesdamcs Weston and Foster; gents’ handicap doubles, Messrs MeMurray and Cowley; mixed handicap doubles, Mrs O. Nieol and Mr J. Christie; junior handicap singles, Miss C. McCulloch; Wednesday singles, Mr D. MeMurray; ladies’ consolation, Miss A. White; gents’ consolation, Mr N. Johansen. Good Prospects. “The prospects for the coming season are very favourable and indications point to an increased membership m all sections. However, there will be.

non to urr.Hcnes tor tneir comment. considerable expenditure required in connection with the tennis courts. It would also like to draw tko attention of members to the fact that in tho near future we will be expected to take over the management of the club from the City Council, and I would suggest to the incoming committee that they bear this in mind during the forthcoming season.”
