A Tribute to Amy
WIIAT A GIRL CAN DO. Flight-Lieutenant Tommy Rose, former holder of tho England-Cape flight record, paid a tribute this week to Mrs. Amy Mollison, who broke his record in May. He was addressing AGO women students attending a London education course. “ Mrs. Mollison,” he said, “has shown that a girl can do the things in the air that strong, fat gentle men can do.”
| After making his record flight to Capetown! in 3 days 17 hours 38 minutes. Mr. Rose continued, a nervous announcer, introducing him to the microphone, 1 said: “This is Mr. Tommy Mollison, who has just flown from England in 37 days 1G hours 7 minutes.” Tho next day he met the Premier, General Hertzog, who said, “I was listening to the wireless last night. If what 1 heard was true, surely it would be quicker to come by boat.” ' Mr. Rose said that he found tho best way to deal with boredom ou a long flight was eating oranges. Peeling and eating one orange took him 11 minutes 13 seconds. After much practice he found that ho could blow every pip out of a narrow opening in the window.
