Ideal of Unity Through Art
ANTEENATIUNAL 11AJN
The National Union of Girls’ Clubs in Britain this year prepared an interesting and unusual exhibition of . handicrafts. “Peasant work,” they said, in a preliminary announcement, “from all over Europe will be shown, and the political lion will lie down peacefully besido the handicraft lamb.”
The idea of the arts proving a factor for peace and union among the nations is no new thing, and if the gathering together of children’s drawings iiom the TJ.SJ3.It., net embroideries from Czechoslovakia, Italian art works, Swedish toys/ and English smocking can do anything to increase the understanding and friendship between different' peoples —and w'e see no reason why not—then wo mav wish such exhibitions good luck at this time with more than usual, fervour.
Last year the English Folk Dance and Song Society did similar propaganda work with an International Folk Dance Festival; this year that lias not been possible, but the exhibition took its place.
