Wedding of the Week in Feilding

The wedding which, took place on Wednesday afternoon, of- Edna May, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs E. H. Thomas, “ Pcnwarnc/' Cunninghams, and James Simpson, younger son * of Mr and Mrs G. Hunter, Eyfe, ■ Scotland, attracted a great number of relatives and friends to St. Paul’s Church, the bride and bridegroom being particularly popular young people.

Well wishers had decorated the church most effectively with japonica pink Iceland poppies, green hydrangeas and other llowers of similar colouring and the ceremony was performed by the Reverend Shelton, of Bulls, Mr A. C. iMatherson presiding at the organ.

The bride who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful robe of creme cropo silk and lh.ee which was designed on classic lines that fell to form a train! A cowl of delicate lace finished the neckline and the cowl sleeves were of lace with long tightfitting cuffs of crepe silk studded from wrists to elbows with tiny buttons. Godcts of lace offset the skirt that was very fully flared. From a wreath of orange blossom her embroidered tulle veil billowed iu soft folds to the end of her train and she wore a string of pearls and'carried a sheaf of arum lilies tied with creme satin ribbon. Miss Betty Entwisle, as bridesmaid, w:as in a charming frock of eau dc nil lace over satin. The bodice was cut to form a cape and this being slit at the shoulders allowed the lace to fall on either side to reveal the arms. The v-shnped back was filled in with net and buttoned to the waist with small silver buttons. Two pink velvet flowers were set at the corsage and a plaited silver girdle was worn knotted iu front and with Jong tasselled ends reaching to the hem of her flared shirt. Her . shoes were of salmon pink brocade shot with silver and in her hair- she wore a bandeau of silver leaves nud tiny pink velvet flowers. Her necklet was of pink pearls and shaded pink Iceland poppies and maidenhair fern composed her bouquet that was tied with satin ribbon to tono. Little Miss Iris Newdick, of Palmerston North (niece of the bridegroom) was the smartest of flower girls in a Kate Greenaway frock of salmon pink taffeta sprigged with flowers in a slightly darker tint. Two narrow frills outlined the round neck, the short sleeves were formed of frills and the ankle-length skirt was frilled at the hem to correspond. She wore a sash of silver ribbon, her shoes and bandeau were of pink and silver and she carried a pretty green basket of pink poppies. Mr Frederic Gay, of Waipukurau (cousin of the bride) svns best man. A reception was afterwards held at the Oddfellows’ hall well on towards 200 guests being received by Mr aud Mrs Thomas. Newdick, of Palmerston North

(sister of tho bridegroom) being in a brown ensemble. A sumptuous wedding breakfast was set out on tables delightfully arranged with Christmas roses and Iceland poppies in all tones of pink and conspicuous upon the bride’s table was the handsome three-tired cake creme in colour and beautifully ornamented with roses by Mrs A. Peters, of Palmerston North, a family friend from whom it was a gift. Among the guests were visitors from Wellington, Masterton, Wanganui, Marton, Hunterville, Palmertson North, Waipukurau and the country districts adjacent to Feilding. A huge array of very beautiful presents, many telegrams of congratulations and a cable from Australia were received by the bride and bridegroom who, following a honeymoon spent in Napier, will settlo in Pahikikura. The bride’s travelling suit was navy blue and with it she wore a frilled blouse of creme georgette and a smart navy velvet hat.
