Palmerston North Y.W.C.A. Board of Directors

MONTHLY MEETING HELD.

The monthly meeting of the Y.W.C.A. was held on Friday in tho Y.W.C.A. club-rooms, Manawatu buildings, George street. Present: Mesdames G. G. Priest (chair), W. H. Phillips, E. C. Barnett, D, Evans, R. Jamieson, C. A. Ismail, 11. Sinclair and Miss Forrest. The devotional opening was taken by Miss Hindie. Correspondence. Tho resignation of Mrs. J, Tasker (hon. treasurer) was accepted with regret. From the Woodvillo Beautifying Society regarding a meeting to bo held to discuss beautifying of the Manawatu Gorge.—Mrs. E. C. Barnett was appointed to represent the Y.W.C.A. From George McCarthy Trust notifying the board of the grant of £75. The monthly report was presented which gave details of the club work. Thanks were expressed to Mrs. Priest for curtains for the lounge and to Miss Forrest for new brooms; to Mrs. Evans for hall matting; to Mr. Eainforth for installing cupboards, shelves, etc.; to all members of the board for their help iu moving to the new premises, making curtains, cushions, staining furniture, etc. The housing bureau had had eight applications for rooms or board and all had been found suitable quarters. The employment bureau had registered four girls, seven positions had been offered, only three of which were filled. Plans for the annual meeting on August 20 were discussed and finalised. Mrs. Evans was thanked for providing the cake for tho annual meeting supper. ' It was decided to donate 10s to the National Council of Women’s peace ambassador plan. A report was given on the advisory committee meeting which suggested the scale of charges for the letting of the various rooms in the building.—This was approved by the board. It- was’-'-reported that 52 chairs had been purchased during the month. The accounts for tho month were passed for payment and the monthly finance statement accepted. It was decided to hold a bridge party on September 7 and a jumble sale on August 29 to add to the furnishing fund which had been sadly depleted during tho last week owing to new curtains, cushions, etc., being purchased. j
