Fire Damages Dyeworks
LARGE AMOUNT OF CLOTHING DESTROYED.
Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Last Night. Caused through a defective chimney an outbreak of lire in the storeroom of the City Dyeworks owned by H. Halliday at 9.45 yesterday morning caused considerable damage to tho two-storcy brick building, the storeroom upstairs being completely gutted aud the contents, consisting chiefly of 500 coats, frocks and other garments destroyed. The staff was working on the ground floor and did not become aware of the lire overhead until a passer-by gave the alarm. Tho brigado made a good save as the flames had a strong hold when tho engines arrived. It is impossible as yet to estimate the amount of damage aud no insurance figures are available.
