Motorists iu Wellington are at present suffering from an epidemic of carthieving. Even private garages are not safe, for there have been instances during the past few weeks of garages bc.ng broken into and tho cars removed. Most of tho cars havo later been found abandoned, and, luckily Ur the owners, undamaged. A New Zealand expedition is to go to Phoenix Island iu the Ellice group next year to observe a total eclipse of the sun on June 8, Dr. E. Marsden, secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, stated last week. ' The expedition will be a semi-private one led by Mr. C. W. • B. Micliie, an amateur astronomer, but it. will have the full co-operation and assistance of the department, ; .
