MARTON JUNCTION Mrs Humphrey presided at the August meeting and -welcomed several visitors. One now member was ■ carolled. Votes of sympathy were passed with Mrs Hunt who is in hospital and with Mrs Hodgetts in the illness of her' husband. A letter of thanks for parcels of clothing Was'received from the District Nurse, also; an invitatiqn to. the : Bulls Women’s ' Institute birthday on August 31. It-was decided to hold a concert a little later on, the date' to be fixed at the next meeting, tho charge to be one shilling with supper provided. A committeo was set up to arrange the programme. The singing circle was heard in two numbers and Miss Butler entertained with two vocal items. Miss Neilson and Miss Mountiort accompanied! Bellowing afternoon tea, Miss Wilson,, of Bulls, gave a very interesting talk on birds, August being the month when these feathered friends arc often dkort of food and appreciate any crumbs. At the conclusion of her talk Miss Wilson conducted a “bird” competition tho winners being Mrs Truman 3, Mrs Lewis,2 and Miss Slight 3. Mrs Davison and Mrs Dudley judged tho competitions tho results being as follows: (a), knitted singlet, Mrs Jordan 1, Mrs Matthews 2 and Mrs Slight 3; (b), plain scones, Mrs Matthews 1, Mrs Jordan 2 and Mrs Watts 3. NIREAHA. Tho August meeting w-as held in the hall, Mrs. Mills presiding over a very good attendance of members. Miss E. Hanson kindly actotd as secretary in the unavoidable absenco of Mrs. Williams. Tho motto for the month w r as “Don’t judge a sausage by its shiny ’skin.” The afternoon was passed pleasantly listening to a gramophone rocital by Mrs. I l ’. Hansen, and items on tho mouthorgan given by Miss. E. Hanson. Mrs. Petersen was elected to tho committee vice Miss Spring (resigned) and received an ovation on her acceptance. A money box was : presented to Mrs. W. Drysdalo’s baby. In the guessing game, Mrs. Petersen and Miss B. Petersen tied, tho latter winning the toss. Mrs. Houston won the fishing game, Mrs. Jj\ Hansen being second. Tho hostesses, Mrs. O’Neil and Mrs. Terry, served a dainty afternoon tea, and the singing of tho National Anthem brought a most enjoyable meoting t,o a close.
