Garden of SPRING

Last week it was predicted on this page that the new Spring fashions would feature startling floral effects. Here they are in to-day’s illustrations.

THIS season offers some interesting variations in figured silks, the chief difference from patterns of the past being that large bouquets are prominent, and if the outsize flowers are not sparsely scattered they are packed tightly into a colorful whole. The small bouquets, of chintz style, which have been featured much of recent years, so far have not been seen in the collections which have opened up. Another point of interest is the vividness of the colors, with special emphasis upon the fuchsia or lilac tones. _ . A scattering of individual flowers or leaves, in two or three colon, is another highlight of this season’s mode and some very luxurious effects have been achieved in these. A sample of the falling leaf design appears on this page. Also the individual flower is represented in the top left hand corner with the white carnation upon a navy blue ground. This silk is particularly interesting because starched lace flowers. are important as trimmings for gowns and to find them pictured on fabrics is to know that these silks are the height of the mode. ' . . The portraits used to demonstrate the charming silks,, which were obtained from a city silk store, are of well-known film stars. Top left is Marsha Hunt, a young Paramount actress. Lower right is Janet ' Gaynor, sitting on the edge of the waterlily pond is June Lang, 20th Century Fox player, while the ; | three other delightful pictures are all of * •K\ Frances Drake, of Paramount fame. f
