New Stories Acquired At Hollywood
Hollywood is in. the midst of its seasonal frenzy of buying film material, with Columbia heading the list of purchasers with a total of sixteen new story properties acquired- in little over a month. The list includes virtually all forms of writing except biography and romantic history, which might be taken to indicate a trend in a new direction. The stories acquired Inciudo “Preventer of Accidents,” a new story by that prolific writer Clearence Keliaud, who authored Columbia’s sensational success “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town,” “Golden. Honeymoon," purchased from the Bing Lardner estate; Alice Duer Miller's “Birth of a Hero.” The company also acquired from the same author “Hive Little Heiresses” as well as “Innocents at Large” by Doris Peel. Kandel’s new novel “City of Conquest/’ Eupert Hughes story. “The Nightingale Flies Home,’’ for a future Grace Moore starring vehicle, “No Gold Medal” by Leonard Lee; “Porker Face” by Carl Claussen, Theodore A. Tinsley’s “Body Snatcher,” “Whispers Ine,” by Harold Bey her; “Weather or No,” authored by A. H. Z. Carr; “Death ou the 8:06” by Phillip Wylie, “Women Are Wise” by Lester Llford and "Postolfico Inspector” by Mortimer Braus. Shirley Temple will shortly be seen in her latest Fox picture, ‘ ‘ The Poor Little Rich Girl,” with Gloria Stuart, Alice Faye, Michael Whalen, Jack Haley and Jane Darwell in support. “Tho Poor Little Rich Girl” which has a modern, 1936 New York background, is said to top everything that Shirley has yet done. <S> <S> <j> <s> A Rumanian admirer recently wrote Gary Cooper, co-star with Marlene Dietrich in “Desire,” for the sum of 40,00 C ley for the purchase of a motorcycle. Wonder how much money that is? Sounds plenty, especially to buy a k motor-cycle.
