Thursday Night's Wrestling Bout

CAN FORSGREN TURN THE TABLES ON EARL McCKEADY?

Tho holder of the British Empire title, Earl McCready, has appeared before local audiences previously, and the prowess he then displayed made it very apparent that ho is well worthy of .the title ho holds; nevertheless, his wonderful record has not been made without his having encountered fotmiilablo opposition and when he met his i'ellow-countrymau,. Jack Forsgren, he had to submit to a fall, Forsgren pinning him with one of his deadly Boston crabs. Earl McCready was tho original holder of the championship of Canada —a role which passed to I orsgren after McCready had sailed for the Dominion last season. In the interim McCready had gone on to still greater heights, but it is not Forsgren’s intention to allow McCready to remain in undisputed possession of the Empire title, while Jio is most anxious to prove that the mantlo ho now wears has been fully merited. When tho pair meet at the Opera house on Thursday night it will early be seen that there is a strong spirit of rivalry betwoen the two men and once they come to grips there is in the minds of both the desire to conquer. That Forsgren is not above making matters rough in his desire to win will tend to add to the excitement. The Canadian is certainly one of the “baa boys of tho ring” and patrons are looking forward to seeing McCready stirred up. in tho past ho has had to exert his full strength and has nad to bring all his science to tho fore to keep his formidable fellow-countryman at bay, but the day might well come when he will be caught napping. in many of his contests, Forsgren’s now famous Boston crab has quickly brought him victory, but ho has an extensive repertoire of holds, some within bounds and others which do not always lino favour with tho onlookers, but they should certainly add to the cxcitemein. Earl McCready won the Canadian amateur heavyweight title in IB—7, 1023 and 1029, and tho British Empire title at Hamilton, Ontario, in 1930. He then placed himself under the Oklahoma State University’s coach and, in 1932, won tho United States collegiate title. He turned professional shortly afterwards, and won the Canadian and Empire titles off Jack Taylor at Calgary iu 1933. Forsgren won the Canadian light-heavyweight title ni 1923 and the heavyweight titlo the following year. He turned professional in 1926, and, therefore, has an advantage of about six years over McCready lrom the point of view of ring experience. As the pair are well matched in respect to weight, a great match is in store for patrons on Thursday night. The amateur bouts promiso to be fully in keeping with the big piofessioual match and, in every respect, the programme should furnish tho tit-fiit oi the season. Judging by tho heavy booking, it is evident that the regular patrous fully expect it to be so.
