At least two recent cases of typhoid fever among Maoris in the Napier district have been traced to eating mussels obtained from the Rangitira bank at Westskore. In spite of warnings which have been issued from time to time supplies of these shellfish' continue to be removed for eating purposes, a practice which has been proved to be highly dangerous, owing to the proximity of the Rangitira bank to the sewerage outlet. 1 On the ground that provision has uot been made in the estimates for the 40-hour week, and because the council may terminate 'the financial year £6OOO behind the planned figures, the Wanganui City'Council has decided to object to the 40-liour week in all its phases.
