GOOD WIN FOR KAITAWA.

Kaitawa caused a surprise on Wednesday -when they gained a comfortable win over tho fiitnerto unbeaten United team by 0 points to 3. The game was played on tho Eketahuna .Domain under favourable conditions aud somo good hockey was witnessed. The young Kaitawa team, were in excellent fettle and by virtue of their speed and superior combination undoubtedly deserved their win. United fielded a line attacking vanguard which initiated many movements, but were wanting in finish in the circle. Their backs, cliiefly through lack of positional play being continually beaten by the speedy Kaitawa frontline, who exploited tho short-passing game to the best advantage. Territorially there was little between the teams, but on the general trend of play Kalian a had a well defined advantage. Eroin the bully off United went on to attack, but Kaitawa took play downheld and forced a corner. United cleared aud for sumc minutes play fluctuated luuiid half-way. Kaitawa, through some nieo work by D. Lett and P. Burgess, took play back to tho circle, where V. bkilton goaied with a fine shot. Kaitawa 1, United 0. Kaitawa came back to tho attack aud forced three corners in succession. United clcured and took play to the Kaitawa circle, where J. Fawkes found the net from a nieleo in the goal-mouth.- Half-time came with tho score: Kaitawa 1, United 1. On resumption Kaitawa jumped to the. attack and a few minutes, later J. Booth goaied.' Shortly after P. Burgess seated a beautiful solo goal from half-way. United -were having a good deal of the territorial play at this stage but their shots wore going astray. Another good Kaitawa movement sunt D. Lett away for a goal. A .Lew minutes later tho same player found the net from a different angle and Kaitawa’s sixth goal also came from her stick. From then on United took the attack and after several attempts P. Ryan scored. Another goal came in quick succession from A. Dick. Outstanding among the Kaitawa players, who all gave a good display, were: D. Lett and I’. Burgess. A. Dick was very sound at lull-back. For United V. Edge played a fine game, and Peggy Ryan was prominent in some good movements. Messrs. J. fcuiler and P. Ruakere ably controlled tho game. > Hamua Defeat Wanderers. Thu game played 'ou the Hamua ground ou Wednesday between Hamua and Wanderers was won by Hamua by 5 goals to nil. Play was of a ragged nature and the standard shown was poor. The new and inexperienced Wanderers team surprised by presenting a fairly solid resistance to their more experienced opponents. Hamua V. points were compiled by Airs. Murray (2), Airs. Udy aud Alisse.s Lawrence and E. Cavanagh. Aiessrs. V. feeott and R. Cavanagh refereed.

The result of Wednesday’s game leaves the teams in an interesting position at the close of the first round of the championship. Next week’c games, consequently, will be eagerly awaited.

Present positions ou the table are:—United, 0; Hamua, C; Kaitawa, 5; Nireaha, 3; Wanderers, 0. Only ono point separates the three leaders, and with Nireaha only two points behind and the whole of the second round to be played, the hockey premiership appears to bo within the grasp of all teams. Keen competition will undoubtedly be forthcoming.
