Ballanee third grade football team forfeited to Athletic- on Wednesday afternoon and Mangatainoka team conceded their game to Eketahuna Old Boys, owing to transport difficulties. As it stands now the third grade championship appears to be between Athletic and Eketahuna Old Boys.
Arrangements are in hand for a third grade representative match to bo played against Wairarapa, at Wairarapa. The mangold and ehou-moellicr competitions, to be held under the auspices of the local branch of the Farmers’ Union, are to be judged ~ to-day aud on Saturday. No entry fee is being charged and good prizes are offering. The adjudicator is Mr S. Freeman, of tho Agricultural Department, stationed at Masterton. Entries will be accepted up to time of judging. Those desirous of competing are advised to ring tho secretary or president of the branch. The recent heavy rains liavo caused slips on tho roads in the Makairo district, making it very difficult for settlers The weather iu Pahiatua has been wet. The barometer reading at 5 p.m. yesterday was 29.3; temperature, 00 degrees Farenheit, Strong westerly winds prevailed.
