Dannevirke High School

MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD OF GOVERNORS

Mr R. J. MacDonald presided ovor the monthly meeting of tho Dannevirke High School Board of Governors.

Tho Director of Education Wrote regarding sound films prepared for the British Electrical Development Association. Tho editor of the Now Zealand Electrical Journal, who had secured the films, had arranged fbr them to be publicly exhibited and wished school children to have an opportunity of seeing them free. Tho Minister of Education commended the proposal, and the editor would approach, the board in tho matter in tho near future.—Received.

A telegram from the Minister of Education informed the board that ho had approved of To Kehunga secondary school pupib being conveyed to the Dannevirke High School. Mr Quigley said that tenders had been called for conveying tho children. The Hawke’s Bay Education Board had considered them and made a recommendation to tho department. The Rev. Mr Stophenson asked how many children would be conveyed. Afr Quigley said he thought that there had to bo accommodation in tho conveyance for 35 to 40.

One or two matters in connection with the conveyance of the pupils were discussed privately, Afr Quigley reading the specifications of tho tender, which showed that tho date of commencement was not expected to be later than June 30, 1936. A lengthy detailed report was received' from tho inspectors who recently visited the school.—lt was decided, on the motion of the chairman, seconded by the Rev. G. B. Stephenson, to congratulate tho principal and his staff on the excellence of the report, most of which was of a confidential nature.

A letter from tho Education Department notified that the board could have tho timber contained in tho old North School for building an assembly hall.

Air R. J. AlacDonald was re-elected chairman.
