Paramount Ball
MANGAMUTU FUNCTION Sounds of revelry emitted from tho precincts of tho Mangamutu hall on Wednesday evening, on tho occasion of the long-awaited Paramount ball. A largo crowd of dance enthusiasts from all tho surroundings districts and outside centres was present, and the hall was filled to capacity. The decorative scheme was very effective, red, black and gold streamers making a profusion of colour, while tho beautiful lighting effects of the specially-installed “Lampe do Vienna” added to the attractiveness of the scene.
Ered Gedson and his Aces kept the dancers in gay mood with their snappy music, and Air Gedson contributed several of his evcr-popular xylophone solos.
The youthful members of AlissJcan Scott's tap ballet created a stir when they appeared in their immaculate male evening attire complete with “top hat, tie and tails,” and they gave a perfect exhibition of tho intricacies of this popular dance, made famous by the inimitable Fred Astaire aud Ginger Rogers. Aliss Scott later gave a splendid exhibition of the American tap dauce. Both performances were outstanding and the talented dancers had to respond to repeated demands for encores.
Much-appreciated extras were contributed by Miss Lotus White (piano) and Air Paul Jones (jazz effects).
The success of tho function was largely due to the untiring efforts of Aiessrs D. and E. O’Brien.
A sumptuous supper was dispensed by the ladies’ committee.
Air D. O'Brien carried out the duties of AI.C. in a very efficient manner.
