Generous Gift to Levin

LAND FOR MOTORISTS’ CAMP SITE. (Special to ‘‘Times”) LEVIN, Last Night. Notice was received at the monthly meeting of the Levin Borough Council last evening from the Public Trustee that under the will of the late Mr Ilenry Playford, who died at his residence in Bartholomew Road on May 24th last, the Borough of Levin was appointed sole beneficiary of his property, subject to its being prepared to take over and develop the Crown leasehold as a motorists’ camping ground. Tlic property consists of tuo blocks of land. Tho first is in Bartholomew Road and contains 2U acres 11 perches, die Government valuation being £I2IU. Ike second is in Winchester Street and contains 17 acres, - roods, the Government valuation being £1515. There arc two small liabilities, one tho balance of a loan amounting to £171) and the other a mortgage to the Mortgage Corporation for a period of thirty years of £7lO. The testator has left the Bartholomew Road property for a camping ground and that situated in Winchester direct will be administered by the Public Trustee and the nett revenue obtained therefrom given to tho Borough for die maintenance or improvement of the camp site. The gift is made with one condition and that is that if tho Borough should not accept it within twdive months, or, if at any time after accepting the gift, the property ceased to be used or was not available for the purposes of a camp site for a consecutive period of twelve months, all the estate and interest in the land is bequeathed to the Palmerston North Hospital Board for the benefit of the Hospital. His Worship the Mayor, Mr P. W. Goldsmith, stated that there was a way whereby the land could be made into an ideal camping ground and that was by obtaining access to it from Winchester Street. The Council decided to inform the Public Trustee that tho gift was accepted under the will of the late Mr Playford for the purposes intended by ‘he testator.
