Mr J. S. Garden has won the second round of his fight with the State Labour executive in decisive manner. Tho electoral council in his constituency, namely, Cook, passed a vote of confidence in him by 45 to 5, and also decided to convene a special conference of metropolitan electorate councils for June 7, preparatory to demanding a special confereuco of Labour delegates of the whole State in order to discuss Garden’s case and other matters affecting the Labour movement in New South Wales.
It is now considered tho light for control of the Labour organisation has begun in real earnest. Party managers take a serious view of the situation.
Mr J. S. Garden, M.P., was expelled from the Labour Party at a meeting of tho State Australian Labour Party executive by 19 votes to 4. Mr Garden appeared before the executive to explain charges of alleged disloyalty made by him at a meeting of the Labour Council in March last. Mr Garden, in his defence, repeated many of his allegations, but admitted that certain other charges ho had made were capable of qualification. Tho Ilerald says the expulsion of Mr Garden, it is expected, will precipitate ono of the biggest crises in the history of the Laitg Labour movement which, according to many Labour officials, may result in the overthrow of Mr Lang.
