The Pohanglna Tennis Club’s team paid a visit to tho local club on Wednesday last, when some interesting games were played, the home team proving the winners by 9—7 sets and 82—73 games. The following are the results, Aokautero players bc-lng mentioned first: — Ladles’ singles: Miss E. Anderson beat Miss It. KUnk, C —2; Miss M. Anderson beat Miss M. Smart, 6 —5; Miss I. Anderson beat Miss M. Maddlson, 6—3; Miss E. Woods beat Miss J. Howell, 6—4. Men’s singles: J. Woods lost to W. Smart, 4—6; J. Woodley lost to F. Roberts, a—6; W. Anderson lost to H. Moar, 2—6; F. Judd beat W. R. Hopcroft, 6—5. Ladles’ doubles: Misses E. and M. Anderson beat Misses KUnk ' and Smart, 6—3- Misses I. Anderson and E. Woods lost to Misses Maddison nnd Howell, B—6. Men’s Doubles: J. Woods and J. Woodley lost to W. Smart and F. Roberts, 56; \v. Anderson and F. Judd lost to H. Moar and W, R. Hopcroft, 4—o. Combined doubles: Miss E. Anderson and J. Woods beat Miss Kllnk and W. Smart, 6—4; Miss M. Anderson and J. Woodley beat Miss Smart and F, Roberts, 62; Miss I. Anderson and W.. Anderson lost to Miss Maddison and H. Moar, 5—6; Miss E. Woods nnd F. Judd beat Miss Howell and W. R. Hopcroft, &—3. Cricket. Tho local cripket club played a match during tho week-end ut Aokautere against, tho Longburn club. Owing to the boisterous weather conditions tho match had to be abandoned. Aokautere In the first innings made 11 runs, Longburn replying with a total of 16 runs. In the second innings Aokautero scored 42 runs a fine innings being played by J. O’Neil with 23 runs. Bowling for Aokautere, J. P. Robertson took 4 wickets for 4 runs, and J. O’Neil 3 for 6. Longburn bowlers were W. FrcasniuGwere W. Francis, junr., 1 for 2; N. Holden, 2 for 3; T. Temperton, 2 for 2, and C. Francis, 2 for 2. Mr. H. Francis voiced tho thanks of the visitors, while Mr. J. p. Robertson replied on behalf of the homo team.
