New Manawatu Bridge Proposed

The Opiki Farmers’ Union have set up a committee whose purpose is to approach the Public Works Department for the purpose of having immediate plans drawn for a new bridge over the Manawatu river near Opiki. The committee were appointed, following an address given to the union at its last monthly meeting by Mr. N. 11. Mackie, president of the Manawatu Automobile Association, in which valuable information was given on the matter. The committee propose to confer with other interested bodies for the purpose of obtaining this new bridge. They arc entitled to support, for not only is the bridge of vital importance to the improvement of communications for the Opiki district itself, but it will greatly improve communications between Palmerston North and Wellington. With the promise of very considerable activity on the part of the Public Works Department, the district has here a work that it can justifiably ask to be carried out.
