Badminton Season Fine One Locally

FUTURE PROSPECTS BRIGHT. The annual report of the Palmerston North Badminton Club, to bo presented this -week, states that the past season showed an increase in membership in comparison with previous years as follows:—1931, 14 women, 15 men, total 29; 1932, 13 women, 12 men, total 25; 1933, 18 women, 12 men, total 30; 1934, 36 women, 14 men, total 50; 1935, 37 women, 23 men, total 60. “Although tho expenses were heavier, the budget showed, an increase of revenue, the surplus being £ll 6s 3d cash in hand, and £2 10s outstanding for fees, making a total of £l3 16s 3d,’ ’ added the report. “During the season a very successful provincial tournament was undertaken by your club, , in which teams consisting of six men and six women from "Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, Wanganui, and Manawatu played each other, the final results showing Wellington winners with 63 wins, Wanganui 43, Hawke’s Bay 24, and Manawatu 14. In catering for the players a lot of work w r as entailed and your committee wishes to place on record their appreciation to those ladies who so ably carried out these arduous duties, and particularly Mrs J. T. McDonald, Mrs C. C. Yates, Mrs Dean, Misses E. Peters and I. Nettlefold, for their valuable assistance and co-operation. A number of most enjoyable matches were played against the two Levin clubs and Mana■watu Central, the result of which showed that players are improving each year. During the coming season the Western District Association is arranging for a visit from Mr Davelin, the English champion, and it is confidently expected that he will be able to include Palmerston North in his itinerary. Your committee take this opportunity of congratulating Mr R. Hill and Mrs C. C. Yates on winning the club championship in the men’s and women’s events respectively. Our thanks are due to Mr W. B. Tennent and Dr. and Mrs Dean for donations and trophies, Mr Parker, of the A. and P. Association, for looking after our interests, and the many ladies who contributed so much towards making our various functions enjoyable.”
