BEAUTY SECRETS

BY MAX FACTOR HOLLYWOOD MAKE UP GENIUS

WANING BEAUTY Jf a chart were kept of feminine beauty, it is said that the average woman would appear to reach her peak of loveliness between the ages of 21 and 24. After so many years of association with Hollywood’s ageless stars. I was considerably shocked by this statement. I’m sure that every one of the women who rate 100 per cent, in charm are well over that age limit. In fact, one of the loveliest women I know is over 40. After all, feminine charm is certainly not purely physical. It needs the poise and dignity that come with maturity .. . thus creating that raro alloy of tho mental and physical that denotes the woman of real attraction. Therefore, tho more mature woman —who is also physically beautifull — holds an invincible advantage over the most attractive of the younger generation. The trick in preserving beauty lies in being consistent. Carelessness is the great enemy we all have to fight. When your physical charm has reached its peak, you must step in and keep it there. Take the situation into your own hands .... don’t let your beauty wanel Watch your eyes . . . they’ll be the first to flash the signal that your vigilance must be doubled. Fine, almost microscopic lines may start to make their appearance at the corners. Carelessly attended eyebrows or lashes tell their tale of neglect. The result is small, lusterless eyes. At this very first indication, double the number of your treatments with a lubricating cream. Pat this skin and tissue cream well into the area around the eyes and lids. Do it all night. Remember to pat, don’t rub. Rubbing tends to break down delicate tissue. More of the cream will be absorbed by the rskin if you open the pores w T ith a hot towel treatment. Brush up on your eyebrow-plucking technique. Keep your brows in a neatly-tailored—not thin—line. Care reveals itself in neatness; and neatness is a real hand-maiden of charm. Lashes may be darkened with eyelash make-up, but just enough to colour them—not cake them. A touch of eyeshadow —carefully blended —will add depth and colour to your eyes. Lines and wrinkles around your mouth will respond to the same treatment prescribed for the eyes. But you’ll need a review in the correct way of applying your lipstick. First of all, dry the lips thoroughly, Then draw in

the desired shape on the upper lip, following as nearly as possible the natural contours. By compressing the lips together, transfer this pattern to the lower lip. Thus, a-symmetrical mouth is assured. Blend the colour smoothly and evenly toward the inside of the mouth, to eliminate an abrupt line where the lipstick ends. Any unsightly excess of colour may be avoided by pressing a bit of absorbent tissue between the lips.

A protective powder foundation is most essential to the skin which has begun to show wear and tear. This makeup base or foundation cream forms a thin film over the skin and protects it from tho ravages of the elements. The way it makes your make-up cling evenly and smoothly for hours will delight you.

A darkened throat is another taletattler. Attack it with a bleach mask treatment. This will not only make tho complexion lighter and more even, but will also serve to tone and tighten the skin. If you feel that it still is too

dark, use a make-up blender or liquid powder tinted in-a shado to harmonize with your facial make-up. Two telling age barometers are the hands. Unless carefully groomed, they’re a dead give-away. Keep them youthful in appearance and "feel” by massaging them with a few drops of hand lotion each time they come in contact with water.

A word about colour: As a woman matures, the colour of her skin —and sometimes the colour of her eyes—undergoes a change. Be watchful for this. Remember that it will necessitate changing the shades of certain of your beauty aids. This change is constant and is no cause for apprehension, unless you continue to use the same shade of powder or rouge beyond a reasonable limit.

Can’t you see, now, that there’s no reason for beauty to diminish? It can grow and grow, mellowed by the reserve and poise of maturity. This achievement lies within the reach of every woman!
