From Our Own Correspondent. The Women’s Institute held its annual picnic at Manawatu Heads on Saturday. Tho weather was beautifully fine and thero was a large attendance of members and friends, ail of whom thoroughly enjoyed the day’s outing. The breakers proved a great attraction, and although there was a keen breeze blowing, quite a number enjoyed a dip in the sea. After lunch h,ad been disposed of, a happy time was spent in games and sports, the various novelty events causing a lot. of fun. After the strenuous exertions of tho afternoon, tea made a pleasant break and it was a tired and happy company that wended its way homewards. The following are the results of the races; Married ladies, Mrs Russell 1, Mrs Noble 2; married men, C. Buchanan 1, J. Baker 2; singlo ladies’ race, Miss B. Beard 1, Miss P. Gimblett 2, Miss A. Gimblett 3; single men’s race, I. Dunford 1, D'. Tennant 2; men’s sack race, I. Dunford 1, S. Pearce 2; ladies’ sack race, Mrs. Baker 1, Mrs. Russell 2; thread-the-needlo race, Miss Russell and I. Dunford 1, Miss Simmons and S. Pearce 2; three-legged race, Miss Gimblett and Mr Russell dead heated with Miss Conchinan and Mr Stan Pearce; wheelbarrow race, Miss Beard and E. Thesonan; chain stepping, Miss Beard and Ruvsell. Ping Pong Club. The annual meeting of the Rangiotu Ping Pong Club was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. D.. G. Moore presiding over a fair attendance of members and intending members. The president referred to the successes of the past season and stated that the prospects for the coming year were very bright and they could confidently look forward to a more successful season this year. The Balance sneet disclosed a very satisfactory financial position. The officers for the ensuing year were then elected as follows: Patron, Mt. T. Donaldson; president, Mr. D. G. Moore; vice-president, Messrs H. Chapman, R. Dixon, B. Rankin. F. Searanhke and J. A Shaw; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. Searancke; hon.. auditor. Mr. E. L. Russell; delegates to attend tho annual meeting of the Te Kawau Table • Tennis Union, Messrs D. G. Moore and M. Say. well. The weekly practice will be held every Friday, and the opening night is to be Friday, March 27. Messrs E. Donaldson. V. Rankin and John Moore were elected handicappers to run the tournament on the opening night. Tennis. The local club enjoyed a visit from tho ICopane Club on Saturday when the visitors proved the winners by a comfortable margin. ____________
