Farmers’ Field Day

SUCCESSFUL GATHERING AT PONGAROA. A very successful Eicid Day was held by the Pongaroa branch of the Farmers’ Union in the Domain on Tuesday, 24th inst., when Mr Freeman, of the Fields Division, Masterton, was in attendance, and before a gathering of about 75 (which included members of the Women’s Division, Puketoa and Pongaroa branches, and a party of boys from the local school) gave a very interesting and instructive discourse on matters of interest- to farmers. Mr Freeman dealt - principally with topdressing of grasslands which was keenly followed by all present, farmers showing a lively interest by asking questions and relating their own individual experiences. In the evening Mr Freeman addressed a further meeting in tho Town Hail there, being about 50 present. This address was on much the same lines as in the afternoon only that lantern slides were used to show by comparison the results obtained by. the use of different seeds and manures. Mr Freeman also strongly advocated the forming of a young farmers’ club in the Pongaroa district, enlarging on the good work done in other districts and emphasised tho great advantages to be gained by the young people joining these clubs. Afternoon tea and supper was provided by the members of the Women’s Division which was greatly appreciated by everyone present. Mr J. W. Murray presided at both meetings, while votes of thanks were proposed by Messrs G. McKay and D. R. Hall.
